Saudi Arabia Is Selling Its Football Clubs. Here's What That Means for Brands.
Saudi Arabia has completed transactions on 11 football clubs, with more expected to hit the market within months, according to Ibrahim AlMoaiqel, Assistant Deputy Minister for Investment and Privatisation. The first major deal: 70% of Al-Hilal sold to Kingdom Holding Company for $373M.
The logic is straightforward — the 2034 World Cup is the catalyst, and the government wants private capital in place before it arrives. Attendance has doubled. Revenues have tripled. Matches now broadcast across 180 countries.
For brands, this is the entry point. Private ownership means commercial mandates, sponsorship agendas, and content arms that didn't exist two years ago. Every incoming investor will need to build an identity — visual, tonal, narrative — from scratch.
That is what we do.
